Personal History Born and raised in Indiana, John “Red Eye” Raynor was a child surrounded by chaos and hardship. His parents, Sarah and Benjamin Raynor, were separated, making family life unstable. Sarah struggled with alcoholism, and Benjamin was heavily involved in drugs. These challenges naturally led John to become a prankster, finding solace and distraction in practical jokes with friends. Despite his surroundings, he managed to avoid deep involvement in drugs and alcohol, although he did occasionally indulge.

At the tender age of seventeen, a tragic incident changed John’s life forever. His father, attempting to flee from a police shootout, was shot and killed. This event plunged John and his mother into a deep depression, severely impacting his schooling. Recognizing the need for help, Sarah decided to seek treatment for her addiction and depression. She sent John to live with his uncle, Major William Raynor, stationed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This decision, although difficult, was made in the hope of giving John a better future while she attended rehab.

For John, the move to Colorado Springs represented a chance for a fresh start. However, his mischievous nature persisted throughout high school. His uncle, Major William Raynor, saw a reflection of his brother’s potential in John and did his best to inspire him. During John’s final spring vacation, William was stationed at a base in Florida with a significant fighter squadron. Here, John’s fascination with aviation began to take flight. He became captivated by the F-15s and F-16s, asking numerous questions about their mechanics and maneuvers. William arranged a flight with a training group, igniting John’s passion for aviation even further.

Back in Colorado, John’s interest in aviation continued to grow, spanning from modern fighters to World War II aircraft. Upon graduating from high school, John was reunited with his mother, who had completed rehab. They spent a precious month together before she succumbed to cancer, a diagnosis she had kept secret. The loss of both parents left John devastated and unsure about his future. On the brink of giving up, his uncle offered him a lifeline: an opportunity to join the Air Force Academy, provided he pursued his interest in flying.

Initially hesitant due to his grief, John ultimately accepted his uncle’s offer. This marked the beginning of his transformation from a troubled youth to a disciplined military officer. The Air Force Academy was a challenging environment for John. He struggled with the strict rules, regulations, and dress codes. Known for his free spirit, John had to learn the discipline necessary to achieve his goals. Despite his rebellious nature, he maintained good grades and stayed out of major trouble, though he frequently attended off-base parties, much to the dismay of his superiors.

During his third year at the academy, John formed a close bond with cadet Jacen Saint, a fellow troublemaker. In a memorable training exercise, they led a squad in a game of capture the flag. When the opposing team attacked and tied them up, John and Jacen retaliated by capturing the enemy camp, defying the exercise rules. Despite the success of their unconventional strategy, they faced disciplinary action, resulting in probation.

Upon graduating from the Air Force Academy, John and Jacen pursued different career paths as 2nd Lieutenants. John was assigned to Pueblo, Colorado, for Introductory Flight Screening, where his skills and abilities were evaluated. Impressed by his talent but wary of his attitude, the Wing Commander nearly assigned him to KC-135s. However, instructors from Area 51 needed top pilots for classified missions and intervened, redirecting John’s career trajectory.

At Sheppard Air Force Base, John underwent advanced fighter pilot training on the T-38. After completing 120 hours of flight instruction and 24 weeks of rigorous training, he chose to specialize in the F-16, hoping to eventually fly the new F-22 fighters. His assignment to Nellis Air Force Base marked the beginning of his involvement in testing and evaluating these advanced fighters.

John’s career included several classified missions, further honing his skills. After a deployment to Afghanistan, he was approached by Lt. Colonel Henry GoForth for a secret assignment related to the Stargate Program. Although he wasn’t initially briefed on the program’s specifics, John was intrigued by the potential to fly the most advanced fighters.

At Area 51, John continued his training, focusing on a variety of fighter simulations and competing against Navy pilots from the Top Gun program. Despite his impressive skills, a bar brawl in California led to his demotion, costing him the chance to become a squadron commander.

During an alien assault on Earth, John was confined to Area 51’s bunkers. He was fully briefed on the Stargate Program and its far-reaching implications. When alien ships attacked, John and his squadron were among the first to launch, defending Earth in intense dogfights and ground assaults. His leadership and combat prowess during this critical period earned him a promotion to Captain.

Over the next decade, John evolved into a seasoned pilot, becoming an integral part of Stargate Command. He led the flagship unit SG-1, bringing his expertise and determination to the forefront of humanity’s defense against extraterrestrial threats. John “Red Eye” Raynor's journey from a troubled youth to a respected military officer and pilot is a testament to his resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to his mission.
