| Personal History | While he was born in Ottawa, Aaron says his home town is all of Canada. The eldest son of a military couple, Aaron’s formative years were spent bouncing from one posting to the next. This helped him make friends easily as he always had to make new ones. The one main constant in his life was his younger brother; Daniel. The pair could usually be found outside playing with the other neighbourhood kids or spending rainy days creating fantastic make believe quests and stories. Aaron, like his parents before him, enrolled in the CAF (Canadian Armed Forces) right out of high school and got accepted into the Royal Military College to do Mechanical Engineering. A year later, Dan followed suit. While Aaron dedicated the bulk of his time in College to study and extra curriculars such as the swim team, Dan met his future wife Kelly. Soon the duo became a trio as Kelly quickly became a welcome addition. While life in the military meant that Aaron and Dan spent much of their time on different postings, missions, and bases. The brothers stayed in close contact. Aaron was best man at Dan and Kelly’s wedding and was the first person who knew they were expecting. Aaron continued his education and training through his career and soon became an experienced diver. Frequently, this meant that his missions became more and more dangerous and classified. He did his best to stay in touch with his brother and his family, but sometimes it was difficult and long periods of time would pass before he could even call them. By the time July 29th, 2009 came around Aaron had been on assignment for five months in the Middle East. Once the attack from space happened, Aaron’s assignment was changed to one of rescue and recovery. It was during the first week after the attack that Aaron’s world would be shattered. His brother and his family had been killed during the attack. The port city of Halifax, Nova Scotia had been hit hard. The casualties and destruction were reminiscent of the Halifax Explosion nearly a century before. Aaron threw himself into his work and was soon stationed back at CFB Halifax to lead a salvage team. Word of what had truly happened began to filter down through the ranks and some of the salvage Aaron’s team were recovering from the harbour was quickly classified and sent off to be studied and reverse engineered. Leading his salvage and recovery team, Aaron was able to recover many important pieces of technology and information that soon led to the creation of a permanent facility and team in Halifax that recovered and researched alien technology. Over time Aaron moved from leading a single dive team to having several teams reporting to him from across Canada in their recovery operations while he branched into into the engineering side of things and tried to find out how the strange technology worked and any weaknesses that could be exploited. Some recovered technology was kept in Canada and successfully reverse engineered while other pieces made their way to Area 51 for further research and development. Aaron worked as hands on during this time as he could is it was one of the only things that helped him focus and keep from focusing on what was lost personally and across the world. Aaron made several trips back and forth to Area 51 to accompany specific equipment and at times lend his expertise. It was during one of those trips that he was informed that he was being reassigned to Stargate Command. His skills would soon be put to use figuring out alien technology off-world. |
